Training for mediators and conciliators
Icotea is officially authorised to train civil mediators through the accreditation by the Ministry of Justice, according to the Ministerial Decree 180/10. The Decree lays down that the possibility of being entered on the register of civil mediators after having completed the course in civil mediation (a specific training which should be updated at least every two years) at qualified institutes like Icotea.
The Italian Legislative Decree No 28 of 2010 introduces innovations about mediation, that is a dynamic, structured, interactive process where a neutral third party assists disputing parties in resolving conflict through the use of specialized communication and negotiation techniques. All participants in mediation are encouraged to actively participate in the process.
Civil mediation deals with disputes between residents or for inheritance, defamation by the press, banking and insurance contracts and much more.

Icotea provides the following programmes of education:
- Professional civil mediator/conciliator course - 54 hours. At the end of this course you can be entered on the Register of mediators of ICOTEA freely. ICOTEA is a conciliation body (accreditation number No. 164).
- Supplementary course for Mediator/Conciliator - 10 hours for those who earn their qualification of professional Mediator/Conciliator by attending 40 hours course. The Italian Ministerial Decree 180/10 established that mediators must attend at least 50 hours course.
- Two-year Refresher course of 16 e 18 hours required to mantain your professional qualification.
